ENGINEERING FORUM OF NIGERIANS' 10TH SPRING ANNIVERSARY EVENT 2013

EFN 10th Spring Anniversary Event 2013

Financing Infrastructure Development in Nigeria
Venue: Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria
27th June 2013

The Engineering Forum of Nigerians - EFN (UK) is the main professional forum of UK based engineering professionals of Nigerian descent and others with demonstrable commitment to Nigeria’s development. EFN collaborates with the mainstream engineering professional bodies in Nigeria and is actively involved in various initiatives to influence the development of the country.

The annual Spring Event is our flagship infrastructure conference which over the last 9 years has taken place in the United Kingdom and attended by numerous organisations and professional bodies from across the globe. It has consistently provided an excellent platform to highlight initiatives that promote capacity building, job creation, strategic advice and opportunities for foreign investment in Nigeria.

The theme of this year’s event is Financing Infrastructure Development in Nigeria’.This is in recognition of the fact that efforts to clear Nigeria’s infrastructural deficit have continued to generate high-level discourse in recent years, even after the enactment of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission Act in 2005. By hosting this conference in Nigeria the EFN UK is looking to provide a platform to further explore and elaborate on innovative ways to address the funding gap to address the country’s much needed infrastructure provision.
Infrastructure provides the foundations on which any modern economy is built. A country’s infrastructure includes long-term fixed assets that enable and support economic activity in areas such as transport, communication, energy and power, water provision, waste management, flood control amongst others. Infrastructure is critical to national productivity and economic growth as well as social capital. The demand for infrastructure continues to increase significantly, especially with the demographic challenges associated with Nigeria’s growing population and greater urbanization of our major towns and cities, which will continue to place a demand on this need.

Despite the measures taken by the Federal and State Governments to improve the state of infrastructure in Nigeria, more developments are urgently needed to reduce the deterioration of the country's infrastructure and provide the new infrastructure necessary to meet the increasing growth in our population.

EFN’s 2013 Spring Event will bring together distinguished guests such as Dr Christopher Kolade, CON Chairman, Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P,Arch Mike Onolememen, Minister of Works, Dr Shamusudden Usman Minister for National Planning, CEO of major banks, International Financial Institutions, Developers and a host of organisations from Nigeria and other parts of the world.

‘Financing Infrastructure Development in Nigeria’ follows previous highly successful conferences organised by the EFN.
