“This year’s celebration is centred on the achievement of Nollywood as it embraces the power of digital motion pictures to deliver messages for the effective transformation of society.

“The awards ceremony promises to be an evening of glamour, corporate networking and rib-cracking comedy to de-stress and refresh hard working entrepreneurs. The event has a dedicated following of leading business executives and the crème de la crème of Britain’s diverse community.

“Friday 13 November is expected to record the biggest concentration of African film industry practitioners, investors and entrepreneurs under one roof to support an industry that is depending on the creative ingenuity of talented people to contribute to the economy without a legislative framework or infrastructural support.

THE LOWER CUT SYNOPSIS

A docu-drama on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Back home in Gambia, Bintu goes through the excruciating ordeal of female circumcision otherwise known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Following the procedure, her whole life is blighted by trauma, flashbacks, pain, sorrow tears and blood.

In a bid to escape these horrific feelings, she emigrates to Europe where she discovers that she is not alone as a victim; her closest friend and confidant has also been through the procedure.

The effect of FGM on their love-lives is harrowing, to say the least. Together, they try to beat the negative effects of FGM.

Bintu and Adamma soon learn to face up to the reality that FGM is not only practiced in Africa but also in parts of Asia, the Middle-East –virtually the whole world. They are curious as to why different cultures perform FGM. They are confronted with the stark reality and criminality that envelop the global phenomenon of FGM.

The Lower Cut is a bird’s eye view of anti FGM legislations and Child Protection laws in the UK and other parts of the world.

Poignant as these issues may be, award winning Director, George Kelly has craftily presented the subject matter without losing the humorous flavour associated with his style of production.

THE LOWER CUT is presented as a fusion between Nollywood and Bollywood, by highlighting cultural similarities between Nigeria and India as reference points.

According to the Executive Producer, Mr Akindiyini (CEO Chicago Bar Grill & Motel, Akute, Lagos in Nigeria) “I have invested in entertainment for over 30 years but “The Lower Cut” movie is the singular project I identify with, the most. The story is unique, educational and yet entertaining. It deserves nothing short of a big -budget international production.
