Written, produced & directed by Obi Emelonye, the visionary award-winning UK based Nigerian filmmaker and starring Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Jim Iyke, Last Flight to Abuja is an exciting new Nollywood film inspired by the tragic series of plane crashes in 2006 that rocked the Nigerian aviation industry. It is with great sadness that just as the film is set to world premiere on Friday 8th June at the iconic Troxy Cinema in London and further elevate and redefine Nollywood cinema, yet another Nigerian aviation tragedy has occurred.

As the final days approach to the premiere of this highly anticipated Nollywood movie, it is with a heavy heart that the producers now dedicate the premiere to the memory of the unfortunate victims of the Allied Air and Dana Air plane crashes that took place in Accra and Lagos respectively on 3rd June 2012.

 

After full consideration of the effects of postponing and taking full consultation with the lead actors flying in for the premiere, the producers feel that hosting the event is the best way to pay testimony to the memory of the victims of the crashes. To express their solidarity with the feelings of everyone affected by the tragedies, especially those who have lost loved ones, the producers will hold a minutes silence before the film screens and dedicate the film to the memory of the victims of the Allied Air and Dana Air plane crashes and in fact all victims of air crashes in Africa. Further, the producers will look at how to use Last Flight to Abuja as an advocacy tool to highlight the issues of air safety in Nigeria and Africa at large

The producers, the cast and all involved with the film being extremely sensitive towards the expressed concerns of the premiere guests, the Nollywood loving public and concerned citizens everywhere hope these actions in some small part will show support towards the family and friends of the victims and the nations of Nigeria & Ghana as they go through the pain of the healing process of these national disasters.

Our thoughts are with the victims, may their souls rest in God’s perfect peace.

US-based Nigerian movie maker, Chuck Ajoku, has shot a movie in his quest to bridging the gap between Nollywood and Hollywood

US-based Nigerian movie maker, Chuck Ajoku, has shot a movie in his quest to bridging the gap between Nollywood and Hollywood. Taking a gamble though, he did not feature the familiar faces in the movie industry, but rather, he looked the other way when he shot a Nigerian film in the US, using a cast that he technically believed would fit the picture better than any other Nigerian-based actor or actress.
Chuck informed that the cast used were based on the story line. “We have a guy who is supposed to have lived all his life in US, or who has stayed there for a long time, and must be a Nigerian, Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, and must be able to move from our dialect to the American English.
“The only thing that got me into this industry is that we are not trying to make a change, we are trying to polish what we have.”
On ‘Unwanted Guest’, many have not seen the actor Chuck used, but he says Chet Anekwe is an A-list actor.
“He has done about 10 Nollywood movies abroad and he is one of the few that has moved from Nollywood to Hollywood.
“Every American who has watched this movie has done so because of Chet. He played a major role in Monique’s “Phat Girls”. A lot of people were interested in his nationality and personality. He encouraged the growth of this industry. I needed to show Nigerians that this guy is hot in US.”
He told R he bears no grudge against Nigerian-based actors and actresses, insisting that “if Jim Iyke shows up in US today, we will honour him. Same goes for Omotola or Genevieve. I will see Genevieve before I look at Julia Roberts. I will see Omotola before I think of Halle Berry. I encourage my own people. I like them all, but stars do not have to take the industry to the grave
“The reason we are not showing in the American cinemas is because we are using the wrong people as the right cast, and the right cast for the wrong people. If you a Jamaican, and there’s a role for a Jamaican in a Nigerian movie, get a Jamaican to do it. He wouldn’t force it.
“The movie also doesn’t have anything to do with A-list actors, it’s looking for a Nigerian family that migrated to the US and what their lives and struggle was all about
“If we keep putting back the same faces everyday in the different movies the we do, without encouraging the young ones who are working hard day and night, what will happen to the industry when these people are no longer acting? They take the industry with them, and that will kill the industry.
Leigh Ann Rose, the lead actress in the movie praised Chuck for the opportunity he has opened for new stars. “It is a new order,” she says.
“When there are no more Iykes, Genevieves, Omotolas, there must be an Ngozi or Bola or Halima,” she adds.

The actress is quietly racking up roles in quality movies that might put her in contention in the Best Actress category in the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Star actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde barely landed Lagos from Accra where she had been shooting Leila Djansi's much awaited film "Ties that Bind", when she had to jet off again for another major shoot in London.  This time, she is starring in a feature film titledAMINA alongside British Actors Wil Johnson and Vincent Reagan

There is so much secrecy surrounding the project that all we managed to get were 2 pictures from production manager Afshan Hassan.  We also gather that the film is being directed by a Uk based director Christian Ashaiku.  The film is an emotional drama about Amina who is left disillusioned that all men have to offer her is sorrow, pain and humiliation after an unplanned pregnancy at 16.  Audiences will be taken on a journey to see what it will take for Amina to date again.

When questioned about the production, all Omotola could say was "I feel appreciated and challenged".   The actress is quietly racking up meaty roles in quality movies that might put her in contention in the Best Actress category in the 2012 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).  Till the producers are ready to let the press in , all we can report is that Omotola is poised to achieve meaningful things this year and 2012.
