The Cochrane Theatre, Southampton Row, Holborn, London WC1 4AP

Wedlock of the Gods is set in 18th century, rural Nigeria and is a tragic drama about love and sacrifice. The play has its roots in traditional rituals of death and  mourning. A young girl is given away in marriage against her will. She rebels iWedn the face of age old customs and traditions...What would be the consequences of her desire? The play with its great tWedlock of the Godsumultuous love has echoes of Troilus and Cressida, Helen and Paris of Troy and Romeo and Juliet.

Wedlock of the Gods is written by Zulu Sofola. She is one of Africa's foremost female writers. Her work is largely unknown thus Virgo Foundation has embarked upon this production to bring her to greater public attention.
